That's why Mum DOESN'T go to Iceland!

OK so I'm feeling a little temperamental of late, my kids are driving me insane and yesterday i had to go for my dread smear which was just awful (I'd put it off for four years so i HAD to go), but what i didn't need was a trip to the ch av capital of supermarkets, I'm visibly shaken now.

There's a reason why Kerry Katona is the face of Iceland and I'm surprised they have revoked her contract given their clientele i have just had a brush with wouldn't bat an eyelid over a bit of drug use! I do apologise if any of you happen to frequent Iceland, I'm speaking purely from my experience at the local store.

This morning i carted all the kids off to nursery for three whole hours of "mummy" time and i had to fit in tidying my germ infested hole of a house along with a bit of grocery shopping. As the nursery is just around the corner form a retail park i made a quick dash around Aldi, see I'm not a snob, i love a bargain and you can't beat their "Super six" offer. After loading all my shopping into the boot i realised i hadn't purchased any quorn mince for tonight's Cottage pie, so as Iceland was on the same retail site i thought I'd pop in to get some. Big mistake, huge...oh my what an eye opener!

They have FOUR freezers dedicated to pizza's alone, which says it all really and only a tiny fridge area with fresh produce. The staff were hardly trained in customer care and most of them were busy gossiping or using their mobile phone! I finally found the quorn mince in the last isle and made a mad dash for the till only for some very rude old guy to grunt and walk straight in front off me, not only that but some greasy haired, overweight smelly twenty year old girl barged right into me from my side and cut in line too!!!! The cheek!!!!

I'm not one for confrontation but i bit my tongue for fear of reprisals, these people have no manners and the last thing i need right now is a black eye. So everyone be warned venture to Iceland at your own peril!

  2. ha ha! Our Iceland is a bit like that too. Sometimes I have to go in tho as its the easiest place to get bread and milk when you are in a hurry. I just 'zone out' for the whole experience. Still its not as bad as the Asda near my old house. Full of people swearing at their young children. Nice!

  6. I love Aldi and hate Iceland!! I think I've shopped there twice. I love a bargain and though the prices are good at Iceland the food is vile!!

  12. I'm a grocery store snob and don't care if that makes me a horrible person! I went to Iceland (my uninitiated American self had NOOOOO idea what I was getting into) once thinking I could find frozen chicken breast. Oh I found it all right pumped full of water and salt! I expect my uncooked and unseasoned chicken to contain ONE ingredient CHICKEN. I've never been back.

  13. Ah, Aldi, I love Aldi. But being used to the Munich version of Aldi, going to Hackney was a slight bit disappointing, to say the least.
No black eye, eh? At least a frozen bag of fries to avoid swelling wouldn't have been far away...

  14. Lindy - I can imagine, your not horrible just normal :)

Metropolitan mum - I'm not suprised you were dissapointed. The french Aldi's were great so i can't imagine what the Munich one was like probably Walmart i expect. lol i'll bare that in mind about the peas, see every cloud :)

  15. Could it have been a combination of Iceland and St Helens?

PS I do occasionally go to Iceland over here, it's a little known fact that Birdseye, Youngs and other good brands are much cheaper there and that Iceland own products are GM Free (go past the fat filled brown items to find things like their delicious Tart Au Citron, or maybe they don't sell them in St Helens?)

  16. I go there sometimes cos it's near the bus stop and the boychild's legs won't always co-operate with a full-blown trip to a the supermarket proper. Am v picky, tho. Ice cream, crisps, pizzas for when they're having friends round and a bit of frozen veg for the freezer is about all I can find worth buying in there. I did boycott Iceland for a while, because the cashier threw my stuff down the counter and then started throwing the next customer's stuff down on top of it after I'd paid cos I hadn't packed mine quickly enough. Poorly trained staff...

  17. Not a good place at all, but good for getting offers on fish fingers!

There's a prize for you at mine

  18. I can't walk past Iceland ever since Kerry's festive 'prawn of a new era' ad with her sitting in a giant king prawn ring.

  19. I'm too much of a snob to go in there I'm afraid. It always seems full of "larger" woman in leggings which distresses me somewhat.

I forgot to tell you, I finally got round to doing your meme (is that what they are called?) - the one you sent back in....July!!
